The mission of the Nooksack Tribal Child
Support Program (“NTCSP”) is to provide
services to assist in obtaining financial
support for children from parents while
ensuring that all action taken is consistent
with the best interests of the child(ren).

Services Provided.
Upon
determination that a case is within the
jurisdiction of the Nooksack Indian Tribe,
the NTCSP will assist the client with the
following services:
1)
Establishment of paternity;
2)
Establishment of child support (including
cases where child support is being
established as part of a divorce action);
3)
Modification of child support orders;
4)
Enforcement of child support orders;
5)
Location of a person or the assets of
persons subject to an order establishing
child support;
6) If the
case is within the jurisdiction of the
Nooksack Tribal Court, the NTCSP will
identify any information or services needed
from another jurisdiction and make
appropriate inquiries or referrals.
Services Not Provided.
Clients
often expect services that are not provided
by child support programs. The following
services are NOT provided by the NTCSP:
1)
Assistance
with divorce actions;
2)
Legal
advice;
3)
Assistance
with property settlements;
4)
Assistance
with visitation and custody issues;
5)
Financial
help with attorney fees;
6)
Private
consultation with the NTCSP attorney;
7)
Collection
of medical bills, unless ordered to assist
by the Nooksack Tribal Court;
8)
Collection
of day care expenses, unless ordered to
assist by the Nooksack Tribal Court.
Legal Representation
The NTCSP
attorneys are the legal representatives of
NTCSP and do not represent any individual
client, parent or private party. Any party
may obtain legal representation at their own
expense. The NTCSP does not appoint legal
counsel to represent clients, nor does the
program pay for legal representation.
The NTCSP
attorneys represent the interests of the
Nooksack Indian Tribe and Nooksack Tribal
Child Support Program exclusively.
Attorneys representing the NTCSP do not have
an attorney-client relationship between
themselves and an applicant for or recipient
of child support services. The fact that a
recipient of services from the NTCSP might
incidentally benefit from the actions of the
NTCSP attorney shall not be construed as
legal representation to the recipient, nor
as having formed an attorney-client
relationship. Communications between the
recipient, parents, obligees, obligors or
any other party or witness to a child
support action shall not be considered
privileged or confidential unless
specifically required by tribal, state or
federal law.
NTCSP staff shall not provide legal advice
to any party. NTCSP staff shall not
provide suggestions regarding the kind of
action a party should take in a case, nor
shall they provide opinions as to what the
outcome of legal action might be.
